Even as August winds down the Rockaway Artists Alliance Summer Moons free entertainment series is still going strong. Recently they hosted Cool Hand Lou and the Downtown Daddy-O’s on their sTudio 7 gallery stage. The band, featuring lead singer and guitarist LOU GERRERO, lead guitarist DENNIS JAMES, bassist NEMO VERA and RON FLETCHER on drums, churned out a sizzling power mix of blues, rhythm and rock and roll. The night also saw a late evening open mike session which brought on many solid local talents performing solo, in pairs and even in some surprising spontaneous grouping as they wove their way through well known songs, smooth originals and even poetry. Even more recently Summer Moons presented multi-talented favorites Squid. Set against the Rockaway twilight the group performed their always fresh brand of blues, folk, bluegrass, rock and more.

As a great getaway every Thursday night through August 30, all concerts start at 7pm, are absolutely free to all, even offer free parking and go on well into the evening rain or shine. Upcoming shows include Matt Lyons and Friends on August 23 and guitarist and guitar maker extraordinaire TK Kearney and his Guests on August 30. Event organizers report there might even be a few more open mike evenings ahead.

RAA works in partnership with the National Park Service at Gateway and in part is supported by NYC Department of Cultural Affairs, JP Morgan Chase and the Independence Community Foundation.
