The Rockaway Artists

On Saturday, November 24 they put a 'twist' on their popular Music
Open Mike Nights with a special presentation of Twist Mix: Music,
Video &
Dance featuring DJ/VJ Chumley Twist plus Live Music. Journeyman
DJ/VJ Twist conjures a multilayer mix of pulsing music and swirling video
that will keep the dance floor moving and alive. Live music from musicians far
and wide will also soar well into the night. Admission is free. sTudio 7 is the
venue. Fort Tilden in the Rockaways is the place. The beat begins at 8pm. Don't
miss it!

The RAA also invites all back at 7pm every Thursday night thereafter for
Thursday Music Open Mike Nights in sTudio 7. Bring your ears and love of music and
enjoy, or bring your instrument and be part of the show. Call the Rockaway
Artists Alliance office or sign up at the door. New singers and musicians are
always welcome. And admission is free.
On Sunday December 2 the RAA takes the arts in a yet another direction and
hosts A Gallery Sitters Event: An Afternoon of Poetry with Shirly Holt, her
guests and a poetry open mike. Part of the successful Gallery Sitters Event
series, An Afternoon of Poetry presents a wide variety of poets working in different
genres. Weaving through a moving tapestry of images and emotions, words and
shadows, colors and moods, it follows on the footsteps and builds on a well
received earlier poetry event held as part of the RAA's ArtSplash 2007exhibition. An
Afternoon of Poetry, starting at 2pm, takes place in the more intimate
sTudio 6 gallery, against the backdrop of the current Gifted exhibition.
Admission to both is free.
RAA works in partnership with the National Park Service at Gateway National
Recreation Area and in part is supported by NYC Department of Cultural Affairs,
JP Morgan Chase, The Independence Community Foundation and Brooklyn Brewery.
General meetings are held the second Monday of every month starting at 7:30pm
in building T-149 at Fort Tilden. New faces are always greatly welcomed. Says
a spokesman, "You don't have to be an artist to join. Or to come and enjoy
these two events."
